The GOP is prepared to take this to court.

On Saturday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy stated that he has instructed House committees to look into potential “politically motivated prosecutions” utilizing federal funds. This announcement comes amid rumors that former President Donald Trump could potentially face an indictment as soon as next week.

In transcript provided by Fox, McCarthy wrote, “Here we go again — an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump.”

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s announcement was in response to reports suggesting that the Manhattan District Attorney’s office is preparing to file an indictment against former President Donald Trump for allegedly making hush money payments to Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign.

As per a source within the court, Fox News reported that the Manhattan District Attorney’s office has requested a meeting with law enforcement officials. The purpose of the meeting is to coordinate logistics for the coming week, indicating that they are preparing for a potential indictment against former President Donald Trump during that time.

The possibility of an indictment against former President Donald Trump is a result of a lengthy investigation into his alleged payment of “hush money” to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. During the final stages of the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen transferred $130,000 to Daniels to prevent her from disclosing an alleged affair from 2006. Although Trump has denied any affair with Daniels, he reimbursed Cohen through a series of installments. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office, led by Alvin Bragg, has been probing the hush money scandal for the past five years.

“I’m directing relevant committees to immediately investigate if federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions,” McCarthy further wrote.
