This is great to see.
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, known for his bold takes, took aim at Democrat leadership this week, questioning the party’s future as rumors swirl around Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) possibly eyeing a presidential run.
During his latest episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, the media personality called out the radical left’s influence in the Democrat Party and asked a blunt question:
“What is your strategy?”
His comments came after a Wall Street Journal report revealed AOC isn’t ruling out a future Senate or presidential campaign. The report also noted growing concerns among Democrat strategists that her far-left agenda could alienate moderate and independent voters, especially in swing states.
Smith Sounds the Alarm on AOC’s Agenda
Smith didn’t hold back. He warned that AOC’s progressive policies—including higher taxes, open-border immigration, and attacks on capitalism—are deeply unpopular with middle America.
“If you think free-market capitalism is the problem, if you think securing the border isn’t a priority, if you want 70% income tax rates—AOC is your candidate,” Smith said. “But that’s not going to win elections.”
He emphasized that most Americans are centrist, not part of the MAGA right or the progressive left. And while AOC might fire up the base in deep-blue districts, her platform is likely to repel the very voters Democrats need to win nationally.
Slamming the Far Left’s Agenda
Smith called out the Democratic Party’s obsession with issues like transgender athletes in women’s sports and identity politics, noting that these are distractions from what real voters care about: the economy, security, and stability.
“If you think pushing fringe issues like boys in girls’ sports is a winning formula, your head’s in the sand,” Smith said.
Democrats Still Have No Clear Agenda
Smith also criticized Democrats like Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who seem more focused on attacking President Donald Trump than solving real problems. He stressed that opposing Trump isn’t a policy, and voters deserve better.
“What’s your plan for the economy? For border security? For national defense? For the war in Ukraine or Israel and Hamas?” he asked. “You can’t just say ‘Trump is bad’ and expect that to be enough.”
He also questioned the Biden administration’s approach to foreign policy, asking whether the plan is simply to send more taxpayer dollars overseas while ignoring the crisis at home.
Can AOC Win Nationally?
While some of AOC’s supporters still praise her for her surprise 2018 victory over longtime incumbent Joe Crowley, many voters over 50—especially in conservative-leaning areas—view her policies as reckless, radical, and out of touch.
“She’s a fighter,” Smith acknowledged. “But that doesn’t mean she can win a presidential election.”
Why This Matters to Conservative Americans Over 50
If you’re a conservative voter over 50, this moment in politics should be a wake-up call. The far left is pushing candidates like AOC into the national spotlight—candidates who support high taxes, weak borders, and government overreach.
But as Stephen A. Smith points out, most Americans just want sanity restored: a strong economy, safe streets, secured borders, and respect for traditional values.
