This was unexpected.
Coming from seemingly out of nowhere, former Republican Senator Alan Simpson erupted on the Republican Party and called them a “cult.” Simpson even went as far as saying that former President Donald Trump has “poisoned our democracy.”
According to Insider, In an upcoming book called “Thank You for Your Servitude: Donald Trump’s Washington and the Price of Submission,” Simpson who served in Wyoming was extremely critical of the Republican party and Trump and said, “the tragedy of what has occurred” during the tenure of “this vicious animal who has poisoned our democracy.”
Simpson served in the Senate from 1979 until 1997 and said that while he did vote for Donald Trump in 2016 he decided not to vote for Trump in 2020 and admitted that he is not going to vote for Trump in 2024 if he decides to run for president for a third time.
“We’re not really talking about common sense or even politics anymore in my party,” Simpson added. “This is not a Republican Party anymore. It’s a cult.”
What is interesting about Simpson however is that he is a very close friend of former Vice President Dick Cheney and he has even campaigned for Dick Cheney’s daughter Liz Cheney. This should tell you everything you need to know about Simpson and where values lie. Glad to see him no longer an active Senator within the Republican Party.
