This was very unexpected.
Poll Shows Shocking Shift as Many Conservatives Blame Trump for Biden’s Economic Failures
A new national survey reveals a surprising twist: many 2024 Trump voters are blaming President Trump for the economy — even as the damage was clearly caused by Biden’s failed leadership.
According to the Wall Street Journal/YouGov poll, 46% of Trump supporters believe President Trump is responsible for the state of the economy, compared to just 34% who blame Joe Biden. Another 13% say they’re unsure, while 8% declined to answer.
This poll comes despite years of inflation, reckless federal spending, and disastrous energy policies under Biden, which left working families behind. Still, it appears the media narrative is influencing even conservative voters — at least temporarily.
Democrats Deflect While Trump Bears the Blame
Among 2024 Kamala Harris supporters, the picture is even more biased: 75% claim Trump is to blame, while only 14% point to Biden, whose administration oversaw massive supply chain disruptions and soaring interest rates.
Just 6% of Harris voters said they weren’t sure, and another 6% believe neither are to blame — ignoring the real-world impact of Biden’s job-killing agenda.
Overall, 55% of Americans say Trump is responsible for today’s economy — a reflection of how deeply liberal media outlets have distorted the facts. Only 23% give Biden credit — a stunning figure considering the economic turmoil during his presidency.
Markets Rise, But Warning Signs Are Flashing Red
Despite recent gains in the stock market under Trump’s current term, economic warning signs remain. According to the ADP National Employment Report, private-sector job growth declined in June — the first monthly drop in over two years.
Meanwhile, business leaders are watching Trump’s new tariffs, which are designed to protect American industries and fight back against China’s economic warfare. Some uncertainty remains, but many experts believe these policies are long overdue and necessary.
Past Polls Show Media Misinformation at Work
Back in May, a YouGov/Economist poll showed that 55% of Trump voters credited Biden with the economy, while only 32% gave credit to Trump — an even sharper disconnect than today.
Harris voters were even more biased, with 81% blaming Trump in May and just 9% blaming Biden, despite the economy crumbling under Democratic leadership.
Trump’s Stock Market — Or Biden’s?
In both polls, participants were asked if they agreed with the statement:
“This is Biden’s stock market, not Trump’s” — without being told that Trump himself made the remark.
In May, 41% of Trump voters agreed, while 36% disagreed. But with markets now hitting record highs, opinions are shifting. In the latest poll, 46% now disagree, 29% agree, and 26% are unsure.
Bottom Line: Biden’s Economic Mess, Trump’s Political Fallout
President Trump’s return to office was meant to be a course correction after four years of Democrat-driven decline. But as these poll numbers show, many voters are still confused about who caused the economic mess — and the liberal media is doing everything possible to muddy the waters.
The survey, conducted by The Wall Street Journal and YouGov between June 17 and June 20, included responses from 1,034 adults across the United States and has a margin of error of ±4.2 percentage points.
