Democrats are going to pay for this.

On Thursday, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) vowed to hold Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) responsible for “his unprecedented abuse of power” following the news that Trump has been indicted by a New York grand jury. This is the first time that a former U.S. President has had criminal charges brought against him.

McCarthy in his remarks claimed that Bragg had “irreparably damaged our country” in his efforts to influence the presidential election. Trump is currently in the middle of a 2024 presidential campaign trying to win a second term in the White House.

McCarthy stated that Bragg has repeatedly freed “violent criminals to terrorize the public,” and that he has weaponized the system against Trump. He continued by claiming that the American public did not support this “injustice” and that Bragg would be held accountable by the House of Representatives.

Previously, McCarthy had been relatively dismissive of the investigation that Bragg is leading stating that it was the “weakest case out there” However, many other Republicans have blasted Bragg and his investigation which they have claimed is politically motivated. Earlier this month, McCarthy tried to resolve the tension by urging Trump’s supporters to not follow his calls about protesting in case of a possible indictment.

Trump had previously written “Protest, take our nation back!” in a Truth Social post where he claimed that he was expecting to be arrested in connection to the case.
