The long-running political relationship between Kamala Harris and the Biden family is facing new scrutiny after Hunter Biden publicly questioned the former vice president’s loyalty to his father and delivered a surprisingly harsh assessment of her political abilities.
Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, discussed Harris during a wide-ranging interview with journalist Mehdi Hasan, offering comments that could revive questions about what was happening behind the scenes during the Biden-Harris administration and the turbulent 2024 presidential campaign.
While Hunter stopped short of revealing the details behind his apparent disagreement with Harris, he made one thing clear: He does not entirely agree with the public narrative that Harris remained unwaveringly loyal to his father.
The comments come as Harris attempts to maintain her influence within the Democratic Party and speculation continues about whether she could make another run for the White House in 2028.
Hunter Biden Questions Kamala Harris’ Loyalty
During the interview, Hasan confronted Hunter over his previous criticism of Harris and suggested he appeared to be throwing the former vice president “under the bus.”
Hunter laughed at the suggestion before explaining his position.
He acknowledged that Harris had been loyal to his father but added an important qualification.
“I think that she was loyal to my father,” Hunter said, while arguing that she was not necessarily “loyal to a fault.”

When directly asked how Harris had failed to show loyalty to his father, Hunter refused to reveal what he meant.
“That’s between me and her,” he responded.

During the administration, Democrats generally emphasized cooperation between the president and vice president.
Years later, a more complicated story is emerging.
Harris has criticized Biden’s decision-making and his staff.
Now Biden’s own son is publicly questioning Harris’ loyalty and political abilities.
Democratic Infighting Comes Into The Open
The dispute highlights a problem Democrats have struggled to put behind them since Trump’s 2024 victory.
The party still has not fully resolved the argument over how Biden’s campaign ended, whether Harris was given a fair opportunity to win, or whether Democratic leaders should move in an entirely new direction.
Those disagreements could become increasingly important as attention shifts from the 2026 midterm elections to the 2028 presidential race.
Harris remains one of the most recognizable Democrats in America, but name recognition alone does not guarantee another presidential nomination.

He could have dismissed the loyalty question entirely.
Instead, he suggested that his personal view of Harris differs from the public perception and then said the reason was between the two of them.
That leaves voters with an unanswered question about the relationship between two of the most powerful Democratic families and political figures of the Biden era.
Was this merely a personal disagreement?
Was there friction during the Biden administration?
Did tensions increase during the 2024 campaign?
Or is Hunter simply expressing his own opinion about Harris’ political strategy?
Until more information emerges, those questions remain unanswered.
Harris Still Has a Major Decision Ahead
Despite Hunter’s criticism, Harris should not be counted out of Democratic politics.
She remains a former vice president, former U.S. senator and former Democratic presidential nominee with nationwide name recognition, a fundraising network and connections throughout the party.
Those advantages could make her a serious contender in 2028.
But another presidential campaign would force Harris to answer difficult questions about her record, her relationship with Biden and exactly what she would do differently if voters gave her another opportunity.
Hunter Biden’s latest comments ensure those questions are not disappearing anytime soon.
The Biden-Harris partnership was once presented to Americans as a united Democratic administration. Today, however, public comments from both sides are revealing disagreements that were far less visible when they were in power.
And with the next presidential race already beginning to loom over Democratic politics, the biggest question may be whether the Biden-Harris feud has already peaked — or whether Americans are only beginning to hear what happened behind closed doors.
