Liz Cheney is doing everything in her power to hurt the GOP.
On Wednesday, former Republican Representative Liz Cheney made headlines by announcing her support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election. This move ends weeks of speculation regarding how the member of a prominent GOP family and outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump would align herself with the Democratic ticket.
Cheney, who gained national prominence as the co-chair of the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, has been a vocal critic of Trump, which ultimately led to her loss in the 2022 Republican primary in Wyoming. Her endorsement of Harris was revealed during an event at Duke University.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Cheney expressed her concerns about the ongoing threat she perceives Trump poses to the nation. “Given the gravity of the threat that Donald Trump represents, I find myself compelled to support Kamala Harris rather than voting for Trump,” Cheney remarked. She highlighted her belief in the Constitution and her conservative principles as the basis for her decision, emphasizing that in swing states, writing in alternative candidates is not a viable option.
Liz Cheney, whose father is former Vice President Dick Cheney, stands out as one of the most prominent Republican figures to openly criticize Trump. She joins a small but notable group of former Republicans, including ex-Jan. 6 committee member Adam Kinzinger and former Representative Denver Riggleman, who have also voiced support for Harris.
Additionally, more than 200 former members of the Bush administration, along with alumni from presidential campaigns of the late Senator John McCain and Senator Mitt Romney, have recently endorsed Harris. Cheney’s support for Harris underscores a significant shift in her political stance and reflects a broader trend of former Republicans distancing themselves from Trump.
