Liz Cheney is no longer just trying to hurt Trump, she is trying to hurt the Republican party now too!
Former Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) recently made headlines by endorsing Democrat Colin Allred in his bid for the Texas Senate seat, a move that has sparked considerable debate among Republican circles. During a joint interview with Allred, Cheney took aim at incumbent Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), labeling him as untrustworthy and politically self-serving.
In her remarks, Cheney stated, “You can’t trust Ted Cruz. He’s willing to say anything to further his own political ambitions.” Despite their party differences, Cheney expressed admiration for Allred, emphasizing that he prioritizes the needs of Texas residents over political gamesmanship. “I’ve worked with Colin,” she noted. “At the end of the day, I know he has the interests of the people of Texas first and foremost.”
Cheney, who previously held a prominent leadership role in the House Republican Conference, was particularly critical of Cruz’s past actions regarding the 2020 presidential election. She condemned his support for what she described as a “completely unconstitutional” scheme to challenge electoral votes, which she argued threatened the democratic process.
Allred welcomed Cheney’s endorsement, noting that he aims to unite principled conservatives and Democrats alike in his campaign. He asserted, “In Texas, we face a clear choice: a Senator who prioritizes personal interests and political maneuvering over the Constitution versus someone committed to the people of Texas.”
Polling data indicates that while Cruz maintains a lead, the race is tightening. Recent surveys show Allred trailing by as little as 4 points, a significant shift from earlier this year when he was behind by 16 points in the same poll.
In response to Cheney’s endorsement, Cruz’s campaign dismissed her influence, arguing that her prior electoral defeat in Wyoming reflects her lack of credibility. They emphasized that Cruz has garnered support from a range of Texas officials, asserting that voters are more concerned with substantive issues than political theatrics.
As the campaign progresses, the rivalry between Cruz and Allred is expected to intensify, particularly with Cheney’s involvement drawing attention from both sides of the aisle.
