McConnell is playing a risky game.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell sparked even more controversy after he expressed his support for Republican Sen. Mike Rounds after he blasted Trump for claiming that the 2020 presidential election was not fair.
In a recent interview with CNN, McConnell added fuel to the fire and stated, “I think Sen. Rounds told the truth about what happened in the 2020 election. And I agree with him.“
McConnell’s comments came after Sen. Rounds recently sparked major controversy on ABC and said, ”While there were some irregularities, there were none of the irregularities which would have risen to the point where they would have changed the vote outcome in a single state. We simply did not win the election as Republicans for the presidency.”
Following Rounds’ comments Trump immediately responded and called Rounds a “a weak and ineffective leader.” Later adding, “I hereby firmly pledge that he will never receive my Endorsement again!”
Rounds later responded to Trump’s statement and claimed that he was “disappointed but not surprised.”
With the GOP headed into the midterm elections, conservatives are not happy seeing such a divide within the GOP especially with McConnell, who is considered one of the most influential Republicans in Congress, butting heads with Trump as often as he is.
