Michelle Obama and Jill Biden never did this!
Melania Trump made history on Wednesday by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, a rare honor that coincided with the upcoming release of her new self-titled documentary. The appearance marked a notable moment for the first lady and drew national attention from both political and financial circles.
Dressed in a sleek black dress with a wide black belt, Mrs. Trump stepped onto the iconic trading floor to enthusiastic applause from Wall Street traders. Her presence underscored the growing public interest surrounding her role during President Donald Trump’s second term and the highly anticipated film centered on her perspective.
In brief remarks, the first lady spoke about the increasing importance of cultural influence in modern society, placing storytelling alongside economic strength.
“In the near future, cultural influence will matter as much as economic power,” Melania Trump said. “Our ability to tell our stories and emotionally connect with audiences is essential.”
As part of the New York Stock Exchange’s long-standing tradition, Mrs. Trump was presented with a commemorative medallion by NYSE President Lynn Martin in recognition of the occasion.
“This medallion represents our six pillars, including free markets around the world and the principle of freedom,” Martin said. “Those values are ones you continue to support every day.”
The first lady was also honored with a special commemorative plate celebrating the release of her documentary.

The film, titled Melania, is directed by Brett Ratner and was licensed by Amazon under a reported $40 million agreement finalized in January 2025. The documentary provides a behind-the-scenes look at the 20 days leading up to President Trump’s inauguration, offering a perspective never before seen by the public.
“For the first time in history, people will witness the transition period through the eyes of an incoming first lady,” Melania Trump previously said while describing the project.
A red-carpet premiere is scheduled for Thursday evening at the Trump-Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., with both President Trump and the first lady expected to attend. A private advance screening was also held at the White House over the weekend for a small group of guests, including Barron Trump.
The documentary will open nationwide on January 30 in more than 1,500 theaters across the United States. It will later stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
