Musk Winning Nobel Peace Prize?

Here’s what we know so far.

A Slovenian member of the European Parliament has officially nominated tech mogul Elon Musk for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his steadfast commitment to defending free speech. Branko Grims, a prominent political figure in Slovenia, took to social media to announce the submission of Musk’s nomination, thanking the co-proposers and supporters who made it possible.

Grims, a long-time advocate for national sovereignty and immigration reform, praised Musk’s role in championing the fundamental human right of freedom of speech. In his post, Grims emphasized that Musk’s efforts have significantly advanced the cause of peace by promoting open dialogue and allowing diverse viewpoints to flourish. “Elon Musk has done more for free speech—one of the core pillars of any free society—than anyone else in recent years,” Grims declared.

The European Parliament member’s nomination follows his earlier remarks in December, where he expressed that Musk’s leadership, particularly after acquiring Twitter (now X), marked a pivotal moment for Western civilization. Grims argued that the social media platform’s transformation under Musk’s ownership represents a vital stand for liberty, allowing individuals to express themselves without the censorship often found in today’s increasingly polarized world.

Musk’s nomination is not the first for a high-profile figure in recent years. In 2023, Norwegian libertarian Marius Nilsen also nominated Musk, underscoring his defense of free speech in an era where the right to communicate openly is constantly under threat. In fact, Musk’s stance on the importance of dialogue has made him a central figure in the fight against the growing tide of censorship across the globe.

The Nobel Peace Prize, which officially announces nominees only 50 years after the fact, allows proposers and nominators to publicly share their submissions. Elon Musk’s candidacy joins the ranks of other notable figures, including President Donald Trump, who was nominated in the past for his role in the historic Abraham Accords. Just as Trump’s diplomatic achievements have been recognized, Musk’s advocacy for free speech presents him as a strong contender for the prize in 2025.
