President Donald Trump found himself at the center of another social media debate Thursday after a brief moment during an Oval Office event quickly went viral.
The president was meeting with members of his administration as officials discussed a new initiative focused on America’s coal industry when cameras captured Trump sitting quietly with his eyes closed for several seconds.
Almost immediately, critics seized on the footage, claiming it raised questions about the president’s health and stamina. Supporters, however, dismissed the criticism as another politically motivated attack against the White House.
The video spread rapidly across social media, drawing reactions from politicians, commentators, and activists on both sides of the political aisle.
Among the most outspoken critics was Arizona Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari, who renewed calls for the 25th Amendment to be considered.
The constitutional provision allows for the transfer of presidential power if a president is deemed unable to carry out the duties of the office. However, the process would require support from the vice president, a majority of the Cabinet, and overwhelming approval in Congress—making such a move highly unlikely.
Despite those long odds, critics continued pushing the issue online after the footage surfaced.
Several anti-Trump commentators shared clips from the event and argued that the president appeared disengaged during portions of the meeting.
The White House quickly responded to the growing controversy.
Spokesman Davis Ingle strongly rejected the criticism and defended the president’s performance.
“President Trump’s sharpness, energy, and accessibility speak for themselves,” Ingle said. “The American people have seen firsthand the leadership and stamina he brings to the job every day.”
Supporters also pointed to Trump’s demanding public schedule, frequent travel, campaign appearances, and extensive media availability as evidence that he remains fully engaged in the responsibilities of the presidency.
Questions surrounding presidential health have become an increasingly common topic in modern politics, with both parties facing scrutiny over the physical and mental fitness of their leaders.
Trump, now 79, has repeatedly highlighted his medical evaluations and cognitive testing results, often saying they demonstrate his ability to serve at the highest level.
The latest viral moment is unlikely to end the debate.
For supporters, the video represents another attempt by political opponents and media critics to create controversy around the president. For critics, it has become the latest example fueling concerns about his fitness for office.
One thing is certain: a few seconds of footage from the Oval Office have once again ignited a national conversation.
Watch the video and decide for yourself: Was this another media-driven controversy, or does the footage raise legitimate questions?
