Nobody expected this.

During an appearance on Fox News, Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz from Florida surprisingly expressed his support for Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, stating that she is free from any corrupt activities. The two lawmakers have teamed up to promote a new bipartisan legislation.

In transcript provided by Insider, Gaetz explained, “AOC is wrong a lot, she’d probably say the same thing about me, but she’s not corrupt. And I will work with anyone and everyone to ensure that Congress is not so compromised.”

Despite having different political views in the past, Matt Gaetz and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined forces on Tuesday to present a new legislation called the Bipartisan Restoring Faith in Government Act. The proposed bill aims to prevent members of Congress and their spouses from engaging in stock trading.

Together with other leaders in Congress, Gaetz and Ocasio-Cortez cautioned that the act of members of Congress engaging in stock trading undermines public confidence in the government and creates potential conflicts of interest.

During an interview with Jesse Watters on Tuesday, Matt Gaetz explained his stance on prohibiting members of Congress from trading stocks, stating that it should be prohibited for the same reason referees are not allowed to place bets on the games they officiate.

According to the Florida representative, members of Congress have engaged in stock trading activities amounting to $788 million within the last year alone.
