Schumer Moves To Strip Trump’s Powers

Schumer is just spiteful.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer is demanding that Congress strip President Donald Trump of his ability to lead in the face of escalating Iranian aggression—just as Trump authorized precision military strikes to protect Israel and stop Iran’s nuclear threat.

Schumer, a long-time Trump critic, called for immediate enforcement of the War Powers Act, a decades-old law often used by Democrats to tie the hands of Republican presidents during global crises. His demand came just hours after President Trump confirmed that U.S. forces targeted Iran’s nuclear weapon processing sites—critical facilities believed to be at the heart of Iran’s secret weapons program.

“The danger of wider, longer, and more devastating war has now dramatically increased,” Schumer said, ignoring Iran’s weeks-long barrage of missiles into Israel.

The War Powers Resolution, passed in the aftermath of the Vietnam War, requires a president to seek congressional approval before launching extended military action. While meant to provide oversight, critics say it’s often used as a political tool—especially against Republican commanders-in-chief during moments that demand strength.

Schumer insisted Trump’s airstrikes qualify as unauthorized military action—even though they came in direct response to Iranian attacks that have left dozens of Israelis dead and critical infrastructure damaged. “I’m urging Senate Majority Leader John Thune to put the resolution on the floor immediately. I will vote for it, and I encourage all Senators to join me,” Schumer said.

But conservatives argue this is a dangerous move at the worst possible time.

President Trump announced Saturday that the United States had carried out limited, targeted strikes in coordination with Israeli forces. The goal: neutralize nuclear sites and deter further aggression. Iran had already launched counterstrikes, hitting Israeli cities and leaving civilian casualties in its wake.

National security experts warn that Schumer’s push could embolden Iran—and other U.S. adversaries—by signaling division and weakness in Washington.

Majority Leader John Thune, a close Trump ally, has signaled strong support for the President’s actions, stating that defending our allies and preventing a nuclear Iran is “the right and necessary step.”

“President Trump is doing what any strong American leader should do: protecting our allies and sending a clear message to terrorists,” said one senior GOP aide.

For many across the country—especially conservative voters—the message is clear: Democrats are more interested in blocking Trump than protecting America. And at a time when Iranian missiles are raining down on civilians, that choice is not just political—it’s dangerous.
