Senior GOP Senator Calls for Tough Action as Trump Slams Putin and Zelenskyy Over Escalating War

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), one of the most trusted conservative voices in Washington, is urging President Donald J. Trump to take stronger action against Vladimir Putin following Russia’s largest drone assault on Ukraine to date.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Grassley didn’t hold back:

“I’ve had ENOUGH of Putin killing innocent people,” the veteran senator wrote. “President Trump—TAKE ACTION. At the very least, HIT HIM WITH SANCTIONS.”

His remarks come after Russian forces unleashed over 900 Iranian-style attack drones on Ukrainian cities over the weekend, killing civilians and crippling key infrastructure in what officials call a war crime.

🔥 Trump Responds: “Putin Has Gone Absolutely CRAZY”

President Trump broke his silence on Sunday night via Truth Social with a powerful statement condemning Putin’s growing aggression:

“I’ve always had a good relationship with Vladimir Putin, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY,” Trump wrote. “He is needlessly killing civilians—this is not war, this is chaos.”

The 45th President emphasized that none of this would be happening if he were still in office. Trump blamed the current disaster on a combination of Putin’s delusions, Zelenskyy’s provocation, and Joe Biden’s weakness.

“Zelenskyy is not helping his country. Every word out of his mouth escalates tensions,” Trump added. “This war never would’ve started under Trump. It’s Putin’s war, Zelenskyy’s war, and Biden’s war—not mine. I’m just trying to stop the disaster they’ve caused.”

🛑 Grassley Doubles Down: “Sanction Putin Now—Stop the Slaughter”

This isn’t the first time Senator Grassley has pushed for decisive action.

In April, he demanded President Trump impose the harshest sanctions yet on the Kremlin:

“I’ve seen enough of the killing—innocent Ukrainian women and children are being slaughtered,” Grassley said. “Putin is playing America like a patsy. It’s time to hit back.”

Grassley’s stance mirrors the views of many in the Republican base who support peace through strength—a cornerstone of Trump’s foreign policy legacy.

🧠 The Bigger Picture: Why This War Wouldn’t Have Happened Under Trump

President Trump has repeatedly stated that the Russia-Ukraine war would never have erupted under his leadership. Critics of the Biden administration agree, pointing to weak diplomacy, endless funding for foreign wars, and a lack of accountability.

Under Trump, the world knew there would be consequences for crossing red lines. Today, under Biden, the world sees chaos and incompetence.
