Ocasio-Cortez is even angering members of her own party.
On Sunday, Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) addressed Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) disapproval of his remarks concerning the disorderly House hearing last week, which had been compared to the chaotic atmosphere of the Jerry Springer Show. During this hearing, Ocasio-Cortez clashed with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
Fetterman hilariously took to social media to apologize to the Jerry Springer Show, acknowledging that his comparison might have been too harsh given the event’s intensity and insanity.
Ocasio-Cortez criticized Fetterman for his comments, emphasizing her commitment to standing up against bullies on behalf of her colleagues and constituents. She suggested that Fetterman misunderstood the issues of racism and misogyny, implying that he treated these issues as affecting both sides equally.
In response, Fetterman dismissed Ocasio-Cortez’s criticism as unreasonable and downright insane. In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper, Fetterman clarified that his comments were a reaction to the chaos initiated by Greene. He questioned whether the behavior exhibited during the hearing was something lawmakers would be proud to show to middle school civics students across the country.
The contentious hearing, which considered holding Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress, escalated when Greene questioned Democratic committee members about employing the daughter of the judge in former President Trump’s hush money case. This led to a heated exchange, with Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) challenging Greene’s relevance and Greene responding with a personal attack on Crockett’s appearance. This prompted outrage among Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, who condemned Greene’s comments as completely unacceptable and moved to have them struck from the record.
