Former President Calls for Unity Behind His “Big, Beautiful Bill” While Criticizing Budget Obstruction

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald J. Trump delivered a powerful message to House Republicans during a high-stakes meeting on Capitol Hill Tuesday, taking direct aim at Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie for opposing his legislative agenda.

“Thomas Massie doesn’t get how government works,” Trump said bluntly. “He’s a grandstander—he wants the spotlight but never delivers results.”

The president didn’t stop there.

“We hardly talk to him anymore,” Trump added. “Honestly, I think he should be voted out. He’s just standing in the way of real progress.”

Trump’s remarks came as part of a major push to unite Republicans behind his new legislative package—what he proudly calls the “Big, Beautiful Bill”—a cornerstone of his plan to restore American prosperity, strengthen the economy, and protect national security.

But not all Republicans are falling in line. A small group of fiscal hawks, including Massie, are concerned about potential impacts on the national debt. Meanwhile, moderate voices are pushing to expand tax deductions for high-tax states, a move that Trump’s base sees as catering to blue-state elites.

“If you ask Massie a direct question, he just says no,” Trump said. “He’s not interested in solutions—just soundbites.”

Massie, for his part, doubled down after the meeting, saying his views hadn’t changed.

This isn’t their first clash. Earlier this year, Trump called out Massie for voting against a Republican-led stopgap spending bill, vowing to “lead the charge” to replace him in the next election.

For millions of conservative Americans, Trump’s message was crystal clear: it’s time for Republicans to stop the infighting and start delivering results.

“We need strong fighters who can win,” Trump declared. “Not politicians chasing headlines.”
