Trump Finds Biden’s Missing Children

Biden made promises and Trump delivered on them.

The Trump administration says it is making major progress addressing one of the most disturbing consequences of the Biden administration’s border policies: thousands of migrant children who were released into the United States and later lost by federal agencies.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Monday that more than 127,000 unaccompanied migrant children have now been located after authorities lost contact with them during the Biden years.

According to Noem, the children were part of a massive wave of unaccompanied minors allowed into the country under relaxed enforcement policies, many of whom were released to sponsors with limited vetting and insufficient follow-up.

“The best thing for this holiday season is that we have found over 127,000 of these children,” Noem said. “We’re locating them, returning them to their families where possible, and making sure they are safe.”

Biden-Era Border Failures Exposed

Federal estimates show that more than 448,000 unaccompanied migrant children entered the United States and were released to sponsors between 2019 and 2023. While not all were confirmed missing, watchdog reports found that thousands could not be reliably tracked once released.

A report from the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector General found that Immigration and Customs Enforcement lacked dependable systems to monitor the location and well-being of many of these children. The report cited:

  • Missed immigration court notices
  • Poor coordination between agencies
  • Inadequate follow-up with sponsors

The findings raised serious concerns about children becoming vulnerable to exploitation, unsafe labor conditions, or abuse.

Government data also showed that over 32,000 unaccompanied minors failed to appear for immigration court hearings during that time period, further highlighting systemic breakdowns.

Trump Orders Action After Taking Office

After returning to office in January, Donald Trump directed federal agencies to prioritize locating unaccounted-for children and restoring enforcement standards at the border.

The effort is being led by border czar Tom Homan, who has long warned that weak border controls place children at serious risk.

Many of the minors were released to non-family sponsors or sponsors who were not fully vetted, a practice critics say created predictable dangers that went largely unaddressed during the Biden administration.

Restoring Accountability and Child Safety

Trump administration officials say the recovery effort is about protecting children and restoring accountability, not politics. They argue the situation reflects a broader failure of Biden-era border policy—one that prioritized speed and volume over safety and oversight.

As federal teams continue working to locate missing children and strengthen monitoring systems, administration officials say the results demonstrate a sharp contrast between Biden-era negligence and Trump’s renewed focus on border security, public safety, and the rule of law.
