Another Biden plan comes to an end.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A $5 billion offshore wind project pushed by the Biden administration has been officially shut down by President Donald Trump’s Department of the Interior, citing major concerns over flawed science, environmental damage, and rushed approval processes.
The controversial Empire Wind Project, planned by foreign energy giant Equinor, aimed to plant 147 massive wind turbines off the coasts of New York and New Jersey. The project was heavily backed by Democrats and promoted as a clean energy win. But newly revealed findings show it could have caused severe harm to marine ecosystems, fisheries, and ocean floor habitats.
Biden’s Green Agenda Hits a Wall
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum announced that the project is “halted pending further review”, pointing to internal reports indicating the Biden administration failed to follow proper environmental analysis protocols.
A recent study from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) confirmed the Trump administration’s concerns, stating the wind farm relied on outdated science, incomplete data, and inadequate planning.
“Critical areas that support commercial and recreational fishing were not excluded from leasing,” the NOAA report warned.
“The project’s flawed methodology significantly limited efforts to protect marine life, spawning grounds, and vital fish habitats.”
Environmental Damage Ignored
Key takeaways from NOAA’s findings:
- 139 acres of ocean floor would be permanently damaged by turbines.
- Over 1,550 acres disturbed by undersea cables.
- Fishing industries in New York and New Jersey could face major losses.
- New data on offshore wind turbine failures — including catastrophic blade collapses in 2024 — was completely ignored.
- Massive fish kills linked to similar projects were not considered in the approval process.
Trump Puts America First — Again
This is yet another example of President Trump stepping in to protect American jobs, natural resources, and communities from reckless Democratic policies. While the Biden administration rushed this project through, Trump’s leadership demands accountability, transparency, and real science.
The project was being managed under contract with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and heavily promoted by New York Governor Kathy Hochul, a Democrat. Despite the risks, Hochul remains defiant.
“The project had already received permits, construction had begun, and over a thousand union workers were on the job,” Hochul stated. “Now the federal government is stepping in to shut down Empire Wind 1.”
She vowed to “fight them every step of the way.”
Equinor and Green Energy Allies Push Back
Equinor, the Norway-based energy firm behind the project, issued a statement claiming it is “engaging with relevant authorities” and considering legal action to resume construction.
But for now, the Biden-backed offshore wind project is dead in the water — a victory for fishermen, environmental stewards, and Americans who value real science and national sovereignty.
