This is terrifying.
In an alarming sign of rising lawlessness in Washington, D.C., Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem became the victim of a brazen theft right in the heart of the nation’s capital.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening while Secretary Noem, 53, was enjoying dinner with her family — including her children and grandchildren — at The Capital Burger, just blocks from the White House.
According to law enforcement sources, Noem had just finished paying for their meal when she felt a brush against her leg. Initially, she thought it might have been one of her grandkids. Moments later, she realized her designer handbag was gone.
The stolen purse, a Louis Vuitton Clemence model valued at $600, reportedly contained:
- $3,000 in cash
- Noem’s DHS badge and credentials
- Driver’s license and passport
- Bank cards and checkbook
- Healthcare card and prescription medication
- Apartment keys
DHS officials confirmed that the cash was withdrawn to treat her family to meals, activities, and Easter gifts.
Security footage from the scene shows a white male suspect wearing an N95 mask, dark pants, a baseball cap, and a jacket with a fur-style collar. Surveillance video shows him glancing around, then swiftly grabbing the purse and concealing it under his jacket before leaving the restaurant. He has not yet been identified.
Despite being under the protection of the U.S. Secret Service, it’s unclear whether her security detail was inside the restaurant at the time of the theft. A spokesperson for the Secret Service declined to comment.
An official investigation is now underway to track potential misuse of Noem’s financial and personal identification documents, raising broader concerns about identity theft and national security risks.
Secretary Noem, who previously served as South Dakota’s governor, was appointed to lead the Department of Homeland Security under President Donald Trump’s second administration. She’s been a vocal proponent of strong border enforcement and recently visited El Salvador’s infamous “mega-prison” to highlight the dangers posed by foreign gang members attempting to enter the U.S. illegally.
This latest incident is yet another example of how Democrat-led cities like Washington, D.C. have allowed violent crime, theft, and chaos to spiral out of control — even targeting top government officials.
