Here’s what Trump regrets about not doing during the debate.
Former President Trump recently reflected on his performance during the latest presidential debate, expressing a sense of regret for not confronting ABC News anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis more directly. During an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Gutfeld!”, Trump remarked, “I think my only regret is that I aimed for a level of elegance and restraint, but part of me wishes I had taken them to task.”
He voiced his dissatisfaction with how he was treated by the anchors, stating, “I’m not fans of those guys anymore.” With a touch of humor, Trump quipped about Muir, saying, “His hair looked better five years ago,” before adding, “That’s just what happens over time.”
Critics have taken issue with Muir and Davis for their handling of the debate, noting that they frequently fact-checked Trump while allowing Vice President Kamala Harris to evade scrutiny. Trump highlighted this imbalance, stating, “They didn’t correct her even once, yet they seemed to challenge everything I said.”
Furthermore, he criticized what he termed “fake news” for its overly generous portrayal of Harris’ debate responses, particularly noting her first answer, which he described as a “word salad” that failed to address whether Americans are better off today compared to four years ago.
In a more playful comparison, Trump said, “If I were Winston Churchill—who was a master debater—they would say, ‘He was fine, but not remarkable tonight.'” This remark underscores his belief that he is held to a different standard than others.
In addition to his debate reflections, Trump addressed a recent assassination attempt against him, making light of the situation by joking, “I always said golf is a dangerous game.” He praised the Secret Service for their quick response, noting, “They spotted the barrel of a big gun emerging from the bushes. How many would notice that?”
Finally, he commended a bystander who captured crucial evidence of the would-be assailant, Ryan Wesley Routh, calling her a “heroine” for her bravery. Trump’s comments reflect his continued resilience and commitment to standing firm against perceived media bias and threats.
