Trump Blocked From Prosecuting Jack Smith?

Trump is about to get to the bottom of everything!

National political correspondent Maggie Haberman expressed skepticism on Monday about President-elect Trump’s ability to block the Department of Justice (DOJ) from investigating members of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team. Haberman, a political analyst for CNN and The New York Times, suggested that the idea that Trump’s inner circle would successfully prevent such investigations was misguided. Speaking on The Source with Kaitlan Collins, she implied that the idea of a strong opposition group within the White House that could stop Trump from taking action against the DOJ might not be realistic.

This commentary followed Trump’s decision to appoint former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to head the DOJ, after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) withdrew from consideration. Bondi has previously made strong remarks about the DOJ, accusing some of its prosecutors of weaponizing the legal system against Trump. In particular, she suggested that prosecutors who had engaged in what she termed a “deep state” operation during Trump’s previous term should face investigation themselves. She argued that these prosecutors, who had been operating “in the shadows” during the Trump administration, should now be held accountable under scrutiny.

Haberman also noted that Bondi’s past statements would likely be a topic of questioning during her Senate confirmation hearing. She predicted that Democratic senators would seize on her previous comments, making it a point of contention during the confirmation process. This creates the potential for a contentious back-and-forth over Bondi’s remarks about investigating the DOJ and its prosecutors.

These events come amid reports that Trump plans to remove the entire team working under Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading two major federal prosecutions against the former president. Additionally, Trump is reportedly planning to establish new investigative teams within the DOJ to examine claims of election fraud in key battleground states during the 2020 election.

For Trump’s supporters, these actions represent a significant effort to restore accountability and fairness to the DOJ, which they believe has been politicized. With Trump in power, they hope to see a shift toward addressing the perceived bias in the justice system and a more aggressive investigation into what they see as attempts to undermine his presidency. The ongoing battle over the DOJ’s direction will undoubtedly remain a key issue in the early days of his new administration.
