Homan is not playing.
As President-elect Donald Trump prepares for his second term, his appointed border czar, Tom Homan, has issued a stern warning to those considering crossing the southern border illegally. Homan, who previously served as the Acting Director of ICE, made it clear that the era of “catch and release” under President Joe Biden is coming to an end. In a recent interview with NewsNation, Homan stated that on Day 1 of Trump’s second term, the policy allowing migrants to remain in the U.S. until their asylum hearings will be halted, sending a strong message to would-be border crossers.
Homan’s warning was blunt: “Do not sell everything you own or give your money to criminal cartels for smuggling purposes,” he said. “If you cross illegally, you will not stay.” He emphasized that illegal entry into the United States is not only against the law, but it is also incredibly dangerous. His advice to migrants is simple—stay in your homeland where it’s safe, rather than risking your life by crossing the border unlawfully.
Recent reports indicate that the situation at the southern border is escalating. There have been numerous incidents of violence and threats from criminal groups, including Venezuelan gang members who have targeted border patrol agents. Just last week, a group of armed gang members attempted to force their way into the U.S. through a border gate, and further attempts are expected. In addition, migrant caravans, originating from the southern regions of Mexico, continue their march toward the U.S. border, with some sections already reaching Texas.
Homan noted that while some migrants are rushing to cross the border before Trump assumes office, their efforts are futile. His message is clear: “Stay home.” By disregarding the rule of law, they are only putting themselves—and their families—at greater risk. The new administration, under President Trump, intends to restore order and enforce the nation’s immigration laws to ensure the safety and security of American citizens.
