Trump’s New Constitutional Dilemma

Do these judges keep forgetting that Donald Trump is the president?

In a move that’s sparking outrage among law-abiding Americans, an Obama-appointed federal judge has once again blocked President Donald Trump’s effort to withhold taxpayer funding from sanctuary cities that harbor illegal immigrants.

U.S. District Judge William Orrick, who serves in far-left San Francisco, ruled Thursday that President Trump’s executive order targeting sanctuary jurisdictions is “likely unconstitutional.” The ruling stops the administration from enforcing the order in 16 Democrat-run cities and counties that filed lawsuits.

This is the second time Orrick has interfered with Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda. “Here we are again,” the liberal judge wrote—referring back to his earlier 2017 decision against nearly identical Trump policies aimed at restoring law and order across America.

The ruling shields cities like San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, San Diego, and others across liberal states such as California, Oregon, Minnesota, Washington, and New Mexico. These jurisdictions have openly refused to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, putting American lives at risk in the process.

On his first day back in office, President Trump signed the order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to ensure that sanctuary cities no longer receive the privilege of federal taxpayer dollars while actively defying federal immigration law.

But the judge’s decision now blocks that commonsense enforcement, including Bondi’s memo outlining which cities qualify as sanctuary jurisdictions.

Orrick claimed the order potentially violates the Constitution by stepping on Congress’s budget authority and compelling local officials to do the federal government’s job. But critics say this ruling puts the rights of illegal immigrants above the safety of American citizens.

The Biden-era Department of Justice tried to argue that the cities haven’t yet lost any funding and therefore can’t sue—but Orrick dismissed that argument, pointing to previous legal fights Trump faced from blue states like Illinois and New York.

This is just the latest battle in a larger war over national sovereignty, immigration enforcement, and the rule of law. As President Trump continues to fight for border security and American safety, left-wing judges and Democrat-run cities are standing in the way.
