This is shameful.
A watchdog group known as the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is now claiming that if former President Donald Trump chooses to run again in 2024, they will have him disqualified using the 14th amendment.
According to Insider, CREW is claiming that Trump cannot run as president of the United States again because he engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” against the country.
Noah Bookbinder who is president of CREW wrote, “Should you seek or secure any future elected or appointed government office including the presidency of the United States, we will pursue your disqualification.”
CREW says section 3 of the 14 Amendment says clearly that anyone who “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the United States is barred from being in any form of public office.
Bookbinder added, “By summoning a violent mob to disrupt the transition of presidential power mandated by the Constitution after having sworn to defend the same, you made yourself ineligible to hold public office again. The evidence that you engaged in insurrection as contemplated by the Fourteenth Amendment — including by mobilizing, inciting, and aiding those who attacked the Capitol — is overwhelming.”
It’s going to be interesting to see what more the Democrats do to keep Trump from taking back the White House, one thing is for sure. The Republican voter base still stands firmly with Trump.
