Trump Endorses Ocasio-Cortez?

Trump had some very interesting words for AOC.

President Donald Trump weighed in this week on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) failed bid for a key leadership position in the House of Representatives, offering a mix of encouragement and a bit of humor. After Ocasio-Cortez lost a vote to Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) for the role of top Democrat on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, Trump took to Truth Social to share his thoughts, saying, “Really hate to see that Ocasio-Cortez lost the Battle for the Leadership role in the Democrat Party. She needs to keep trying. Someday, she is going to be successful!”

Trump’s comment followed a decisive victory for Connolly, who had the backing of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, chaired by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.). Connolly also earned the support of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who lobbied for him to take the position. Despite Ocasio-Cortez’s outspoken progressive agenda and her rise to prominence within the Democratic Party, she was ultimately outpaced by Connolly’s experience. The congressman, who has served on the committee for over a decade, proved to be the preferred choice for party leadership.

It’s worth noting that Trump, who has had a long-standing and sometimes combative relationship with Ocasio-Cortez, offered her rare praise earlier this year, acknowledging her “good spark.” Trump even mentioned that he had warned aides during Ocasio-Cortez’s 2018 primary challenge against former Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) that she could be a real threat. Ocasio-Cortez went on to defeat Crowley in a stunning upset, propelling her to national attention.

Although Trump often clashes with the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, his remarks about Ocasio-Cortez suggest a certain respect for her political energy and determination. In the past, Ocasio-Cortez has been vocal in her criticisms of Trump and his policies, particularly when it comes to issues like immigration, climate change, and healthcare. Following Trump’s election in 2016, she warned that his victory could lead to what she described as a threat to individual freedoms and rights.
