U.S. CEOs Express Concerns Over Trump’s Tariff Strategy — But Many Still Stand Behind His Economic Vision

Business Leaders Weigh In on Impact of Trump Tariffs Amid Economic Uncertainty

A new nationwide CEO survey reveals that while some of America’s top executives are raising concerns about President Donald Trump’s latest trade policies, many still support his long-term goal of protecting U.S. manufacturing and American jobs.

According to Chief Executive magazine, 67 business leaders expressed disagreement with the President’s renewed use of tariffs, while 76% believe these import taxes could cause near-term disruptions to their companies. The survey included 329 CEOs from across the country and was conducted from April 8–10, 2025.

Confidence in the U.S. Economy Slips Slightly

In a telling sign of current sentiment, the report shows the lowest level of business confidence since the pandemic in 2020. On a scale from 1 to 10, where 10 represents “excellent,” CEOs rated the U.S. economic climate at 4.6, down from 5.0 just a month earlier.

Executives cited “policy uncertainty” and “tariff unpredictability” as key reasons for the decline. Still, many agree that Trump’s America First approach remains a necessary step to restore economic sovereignty.

Business Owners Call for Strategic Use of Tariffs

Tim Zimmerman, President and CEO of Mitchell Metal Products, said, “Tariffs and the uncertainty of next steps that will be taken by President Trump will lead to very difficult economic times over the next year or two.”

Meanwhile, Donald H. Lloyd II, CEO of St. Claire HealthCare, emphasized the need for focus, stating, “This uncertainty needs to stop. I support tariffs but believe they need to be applied strategically—not globally.”

Trump’s Trade Agenda: Disruption With a Purpose?

President Trump’s return to bold economic action is once again shaking up the status quo. While some in the business community urge caution, many longtime conservatives view the tariff push as a patriotic move to rebuild American industry and push back against decades of outsourcing and globalist influence.

As the 2025 economic landscape continues to evolve, business leaders and everyday Americans alike will be watching how this strategy unfolds.

BOTTOM LINE: Even amid skepticism, President Trump’s tough stance on trade still resonates with those who value economic independence, American labor, and putting our country first.
