Biden Going To Space?

Trump may have won but we still have a senile president in office.

During the APEC summit which was held in Peru, President Biden pushed an awkward joke about potentially heading to space to save astronauts stranded aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The comment came during a meeting with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, as Biden spotted NASA Administrator Bill Nelson in the audience. The 81-year-old president quipped, “Every single time Jill thinks I am getting out of control, she says, ‘I will call [Nelson] and make him send you to outer space.’” Biden added, “And I’m a little nervous he will take me seriously, because we have to bring some people back home!”

Biden’s humorous remark was in reference to the two astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who have been stranded aboard the ISS since June. The astronauts were supposed to return to Earth after just eight days, but a technical issue with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft delayed their return. They are now expected to stay in space until February, when the SpaceX team Dragon capsule will bring them back to earth.

The president’s lighthearted comment came as part of a larger conversation about space exploration at the summit, where Biden thanked Peru for signing onto the Artemis Accords, an agreement that lays out international principles for space exploration. Biden also discussed a new research rocket agreement between the U.S. and Peru.

However, Biden’s trip to the summit and his broader presence at the event have been notably low-profile. His foreign visit has been marked by a lack of media engagement, with Biden avoiding questions from reporters and skipping press conferences throughout his time in Peru. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping received much more attention during his own visit, where he inaugurated a Chinese-funded port project in Peru.

As Biden heads to Brazil for the G20 summit and a visit to the Amazon rainforest, his low-key public appearances continue to raise questions about his administration’s priorities and effectiveness. With President-elect Donald Trump making headlines back home, Biden’s absence from the media spotlight has prompted criticism from journalists who have spent significant resources covering his overseas travel. It remains unclear whether his diplomatic efforts will yield meaningful results or whether his presidency will continue to be defined by these quieter, behind-the-scenes moments.
