Could this help Trump win the presidential election? Let’s hope so!
Former President Donald Trump recently expressed a willingness to mend fences with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, a Republican he has criticized in recent weeks. In an interview with Fox News following Vice President Kamala Harris’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, Trump acknowledged Kemp’s recent supportive remarks and expressed optimism about their future collaboration.
“I just saw Brian was interviewed by Sean Hannity, and he spoke positively, saying he wants me to win and will fully support my efforts,” Trump said. “I believe we’re on track to have a strong working relationship with Governor Kemp,” he added before briefly discussing Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Earlier this month, Trump had sharply criticized Kemp during a rally in Atlanta, calling him “a bad guy” and “disloyal,” and questioning his effectiveness as governor. This criticism drew attention due to Georgia’s crucial role in the presidential election process.
With 16 Electoral College votes, Georgia is a key battleground state. Despite a Republican governor and legislature, the state voted against Trump in the 2020 election. Trump was particularly displeased with Kemp for not supporting his efforts to contest the 2020 election results in Georgia.
Despite their recent tensions, Kemp has pledged his support for Trump moving forward. In his interview with Hannity, Kemp emphasized the importance of winning across all levels of government. “We must win from the top of the ticket down. We cannot afford another four years of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris,” Kemp stated, expressing his belief that a Trump presidency would be preferable to a second Biden term.
Trump responded positively on Truth Social, thanking Kemp for his support and underscoring the importance of winning Georgia. “Thank you to Brian Kemp for your help and support in Georgia. A victory here is crucial for our party and our country,” Trump wrote. He concluded, “I look forward to working together with you, your team, and all our friends in Georgia to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
