Here’s what Americans need to know.
Oregon Democrats have launched a new lawsuit against President Donald Trump, aiming to block his administration from sending National Guard troops to restore order in Portland. The legal challenge came just one day after Trump vowed to protect the “war ravaged” city from Antifa and violent unrest.
The 41-page filing accused Trump of “trampling” the Constitution by federalizing members of the Oregon National Guard. Democrats argued that the Founders opposed “military rule” and claimed Trump’s move would “incite public outcry” instead of stopping chaos.
Trump: Troops Needed To Stop Antifa Violence
President Trump stood firm in his decision, making it clear the federal government will step in where Democrat leaders have failed.
Posting to Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“Following a request from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, I have instructed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to send the troops needed to defend Portland—a city torn apart by violence—as well as our ICE facilities that remain under attack from Antifa and other radical groups. If required, I am granting authorization for the use of full force.”
Trump’s statement reflects his America-First commitment to law and order, a stance many believe is the only way to stop the left’s escalating lawlessness.
Democrats Cry Foul While Portland Suffers
Governor Tina Kotek (D) quickly attacked the President’s decision, insisting there was “no insurrection” and “no threat to national security” in Portland. She argued that troops are “not needed here.”
Portland’s Democrat mayor, Keith Wilson, also lashed out, claiming the “number of necessary troops is zero.” He accused Trump of planning “oppression” instead of acknowledging the city’s rising crime and repeated attacks on federal property.
Oregon AG Files Lawsuit Against Trump
Attorney General Dan Rayfield filed the lawsuit after Secretary Hegseth authorized 200 National Guard members for a 60-day deployment. Rayfield insisted the state was “stable,” despite years of violence, destruction, and unchecked protests.
Trump vs. Democrat Strongholds
Portland is just the latest blue stronghold to clash with President Trump over law and order. Trump has warned cities like Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Chicago that federal intervention will come if local officials refuse to protect their citizens.
This lawsuit highlights the sharp divide between Trump’s push for safety, security, and national strength—and Democrats who continue to prioritize politics over protecting their own communities.
