Is Trump right? Seems like it!
President-elect Donald Trump has called on California Governor Gavin Newsom to step down, pointing the finger at him for the devastation caused by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. Trump, in a scathing post on Truth Social, declared that Newsom’s incompetence was directly responsible for the destruction of one of America’s most beautiful regions.
“One of the largest and most incredible parts of the U.S. is burning to the ground. It’s reduced to dust, and Newscum needs to resign. This is all his fault!!!” Trump wrote, clearly frustrated with the governor’s handling of the crisis. The incoming president was particularly critical of Newsom’s water management policies, accusing the Democrat of prioritizing an endangered fish species over the needs of California residents.
“He chose to protect a nearly useless fish—the Delta smelt—over providing water to the people of Southern California,” Trump continued. “Now, the ultimate price is being paid. I will demand that this incompetent governor allow fresh, clean water to flow into California! He is responsible for this disaster.”
Trump has long criticized California’s water policies, particularly the restrictions placed on water usage in times of drought. His criticisms have frequently extended to Newsom’s progressive policies, which Trump believes have worsened the state’s challenges.
In contrast, Newsom defended his leadership, responding to Trump’s comments with emotional remarks about the human toll of the wildfires. Standing amidst the destruction, the governor stated that it was inappropriate to politicize the tragedy, emphasizing the human cost as families lost homes, schools, and loved ones.
The wildfires have forced tens of thousands to evacuate their homes, with at least five lives lost so far. The fires, fueled by high winds, have destroyed over 1,000 structures, including homes, businesses, and schools. Many areas remain inaccessible due to the severity of the fires, and firefighters are stretched thin.
Trump also took aim at Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and President Joe Biden, criticizing the federal response to the crisis. Bass, in a press conference, failed to provide clear guidance on how residents could seek help, simply directing them to a generic “URL” for assistance. Meanwhile, President Biden, who had been scheduled to travel abroad, canceled his trip to focus on the fires and promised federal support for containment efforts.
As the fires continue to rage, many are asking why California’s leadership failed to prevent such a disaster, and whether the state’s policies are truly serving the needs of its residents. Trump’s call for accountability resonates with many conservatives, who believe California’s leadership has failed to protect the citizens it’s supposed to serve.
