The Trump campaign didn’t mince words.
On Sunday, Trump campaign adviser Corey Lewandowski delivered a pointed critique of Vice President Kamala Harris, suggesting that her attempts to distance herself from the Biden administration’s record are futile. Speaking with Fox News’ Howard Kurtz, Lewandowski accused Harris of opportunistically shifting her policy positions to align with popular sentiment, particularly on critical issues like border security and fracking.
Lewandowski argued that Harris’s changing stance reflects a lack of genuine leadership. He pointed out that she previously advocated for a ban on fracking, only to reverse her position later. Similarly, Harris criticized former President Trump’s stringent border policies but has now adopted a tougher stance herself. According to Lewandowski, these reversals illustrate a broader pattern of political expediency rather than principled leadership.
Harris’s recent endorsement of ending the taxation on service industry tips, a position similar to Trump’s previous advocacy, was also criticized by Lewandowski. He suggested that Harris’s alignment with Trump’s policies reveals her own administration’s failures and her desperation to appeal to voters.
Kurtz questioned Lewandowski about Trump’s evolving positions on various issues, including abortion and marijuana. Lewandowski responded by emphasizing that the core concerns for voters are crime, national security, and the economy. He argued that Trump’s pro-life stance remains consistent through his judicial appointments, which played a key role in overturning Roe v. Wade and returning abortion policy to individual states. This, he claimed, demonstrates Trump’s commitment to conservative principles while allowing states to determine their own laws.
In contrast, Lewandowski portrayed the Democratic Party’s focus on restoring a national abortion right as a key issue in the 2024 race. He criticized Democrats for their emphasis on a national abortion ban, while the Trump campaign highlights its role in shifting the debate to state control, reflecting a significant ideological divide in the upcoming election.
