Liberals are making some wild demands.
A surprising demand from Hollywood director Spike Lee is generating backlash as the New York Knicks continue their quest for an NBA championship.
The outspoken filmmaker and longtime Knicks superfan made headlines after declaring that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would not be welcome at a potential championship parade in New York City.
Lee’s comments come as immigration enforcement remains one of the hottest political issues in America, with President Donald Trump continuing to make border security and immigration enforcement major priorities of his administration.
For Knicks fans, however, the focus remains on basketball.
New York entered Game 3 of the NBA Finals with a golden opportunity to seize control of the series against the San Antonio Spurs. After winning the first two games, the Knicks were just one victory away from taking a commanding 3-0 lead—a deficit no team has ever overcome in NBA Finals history.
The Spurs managed to survive with a narrow 115-111 victory, keeping the series alive and postponing any championship celebration.
But that didn’t stop Lee from looking ahead.
During a recent interview with sports journalist Bill Rhoden, Lee painted a vivid picture of what he believes will happen if the Knicks capture their first NBA title in decades.
According to Lee, the celebration would bring millions of New Yorkers together in a massive citywide party.
“It’s going to be a love fest,” Lee said. “People are going to be hugging and kissing each other. Total strangers.”
The filmmaker predicted the atmosphere would be unlike anything the city has experienced in years, with overflowing crowds filling streets throughout New York.
Then the conversation took a political turn.
While discussing how authorities might handle the enormous crowds, Lee argued that even the New York Police Department could struggle to contain the excitement surrounding a championship parade.
He then made it clear that one federal agency would not be welcome.
“When we win, whether it’s home or away, it’s going to be bananas,” Lee said. “It’s going to be craziness. It’s going to be love. And NYPD can’t control that. The Marines, National Guard—just don’t bring in ICE. No ICE. ICE is not welcome.”
The remarks quickly sparked debate online, particularly among supporters of stronger immigration enforcement policies.
Many questioned why federal immigration officers became part of a discussion centered on a basketball championship celebration.
Others viewed the comments as another example of politics increasingly finding its way into professional sports.
The controversy also comes as ICE continues to play a major role in carrying out the Trump administration’s immigration agenda, making the agency a frequent target of criticism from progressive activists and celebrities.
Whether the Knicks ultimately win the championship remains to be seen.
But thanks to Spike Lee’s comments, a potential victory parade is already generating political controversy long before any championship trophy has been awarded.
As the NBA Finals continue, fans will be watching not only the action on the court but also the growing debate surrounding one of the league’s most passionate celebrity supporters.
