Millions of American families are set to receive a unique keepsake as the nation celebrates its 250th birthday.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced Wednesday that babies born in the United States between July 2 and December 31, 2026, will automatically receive a special commemorative Social Security card featuring the official Freedom 250 logo. The limited-edition design honors America’s historic 250th anniversary while functioning exactly like every other Social Security card issued by the agency.
Special Social Security Cards Honor America’s 250th Birthday
According to the SSA, every eligible newborn will receive the commemorative Social Security card through the agency’s standard Enumeration at Birth program. Parents do not need to submit an application or complete any additional paperwork.
The special-edition cards will be mailed automatically as part of the normal birth registration process.
SSA Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano said the commemorative design recognizes both America’s rich history and the long-standing role Social Security has played in the lives of millions of Americans.
Bisignano said the Freedom 250 initiative celebrates the nation’s rich heritage and the defining events that have shaped the United States, including the establishment of Social Security more than nine decades ago.
Who Qualifies For The Commemorative Social Security Card?
Only babies born between July 2 and December 31, 2026, are eligible to receive the limited-edition Social Security card.
Children born before or after those dates will receive the standard Social Security card. Likewise, anyone requesting a replacement Social Security card will receive the agency’s regular version instead of the commemorative design.
Federal officials also confirmed that producing the special cards will come at no additional cost to taxpayers or families.
Freedom 250 Is Part Of Trump’s America 250 Celebration
The commemorative Social Security card is part of Freedom 250, a public-private partnership launched by the Trump administration to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
Freedom 250 is separate from the congressionally established America250 commission, which was created in 2016 to help organize events commemorating the nation’s founding.
The initiative reflects a broader effort by the Trump administration to highlight American history, patriotism, and the country’s founding during the yearlong celebration leading up to Independence Day 2026.
Trump Expands America 250 Initiatives
The commemorative Social Security cards are just one of several America 250 projects announced by the White House.
President Donald Trump recently introduced a limited-edition Patriot Passport, another collectible item created to recognize the nation’s milestone anniversary. The administration has also promoted additional initiatives designed to celebrate America’s founding, honor its history, and encourage patriotic participation during the historic anniversary year.
For millions of families welcoming newborns in the second half of 2026, the commemorative Social Security card will serve as both an official government document and a lasting reminder of one of the most significant milestones in American history—the nation’s 250th birthday.
