Fed-Up Officers Abandon Democrat Cities for Pro-Police Red States
Across America, law enforcement officers are fleeing blue states and Democrat-run cities — trading chaos and disrespect for safety, stability, and leadership in Republican-led states like Florida and Texas.
Joe Gamaldi, National Vice President of the Fraternal Order of Police and a current Houston police lieutenant, says officers are “voting with their feet,” tired of being demonized and undermined by liberal politicians.
“We’re watching a mass exodus from far-left cities,” Gamaldi told Fox News Digital. “Cops are sick of being scapegoated, slandered, and thrown under the bus by anti-police mayors and city councils.”
This shift is part of a growing trend in the wake of the disastrous “defund the police” movement, which triggered record resignations and skyrocketing crime in many blue cities. Now, thousands of officers are relocating to red states that offer real leadership, better pay, and public support.
Florida Leads the Way
Republican Governor Ron DeSantis and former Attorney General Ashley Moody have made Florida the most pro-law enforcement state in America.
Between 2022 and 2023, Florida welcomed over 5,000 new law enforcement recruits, including 1,200 from out of state — many fleeing blue states like California, Illinois, and New York.
“In Florida, we don’t defund police — we reward them,” Moody said. “Our communities are safer because we respect and invest in those who serve.”
New officers receive relocation bonuses, moving expense coverage, and career advancement opportunities — all while working in a state that defends their work instead of vilifying it.
Texas Also Seeing the Shift
Even in blue-leaning cities within red states, officers are choosing to stay — because they feel valued. In Houston, the mayor has approved major pay raises, sending a strong signal that the city stands with its police. Other conservative-led cities like Dallas and Fort Worth are seeing similar growth.
“There’s one thing these communities have in common,” Gamaldi noted. “They support law enforcement — and it shows.”
Blue Cities in Crisis
Meanwhile, liberal strongholds like Seattle, Portland, Chicago, and New York City are hemorrhaging experienced officers.
“They’ve made it clear: ‘We don’t support you. We’ll cut your funding. We’ll indict you for doing your job,’” Gamaldi said. “Now they wonder why crime is spiraling out of control.”
In New York, radical socialist and mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has publicly called for dismantling the NYPD — a shocking stance that has outraged officers and citizens alike.
The Damage Is Long-Term
When officers walk away, cities lose more than boots on the ground. They lose decades of hard-earned experience — and the ability to train future generations.
“2020’s defund movement did irreversible damage,” Gamaldi warned. “You can’t just replace that level of expertise. These cities are paying the price for their anti-police agenda.”
“Why Would You Stay?”
With better salaries, signing bonuses, moving assistance, and respect, red states are making it clear: law enforcement is welcome here.
“If your boss humiliated you daily, ignored your training, and still blamed you for everything — would you stay?” Gamaldi asked. “That’s the reality for thousands of officers in blue cities. And they’re finally saying, ‘Enough is enough.’”
