This Labor Day, American families are celebrating more than barbecues and road trips.
They’re celebrating the lowest gas prices in half a decade — a direct result of President Trump’s America First energy agenda.
GasBuddy reports the national average at $3.15 per gallon, making this holiday weekend the most affordable since 2020, when the pandemic briefly pushed prices down.
Trump Delivers Energy Relief
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt credited Trump’s leadership for giving families a much-needed financial break:
“Because President Trump restored true American energy independence, gas prices have dropped to their lowest level in five years, giving families real relief at the pump,” Leavitt said. “By ending Joe Biden’s failed Green New Deal agenda, President Trump is once again making life affordable for hardworking Americans.”
Just last year, gas stood at $3.29 per gallon, and in 2023 it hit $3.77. Under Trump, that trend has been reversed — proof his energy independence policies are working.
Energy Independence Means Lower Costs
Energy Secretary Chris Wright highlighted that lower fuel prices are not a coincidence but the result of deliberate policy:
“President Trump promised to lower costs, and this Labor Day the American people see it firsthand — the lowest holiday gas prices in years. His approach is common sense: more American energy means lower costs, more jobs, and more prosperity.”
The message is clear: when America drills, America saves.
More Good News on the Horizon
Experts predict gas could fall even further as summer demand fades. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said prices may drop below $3 per gallon in September.
“This has been the cheapest summer for road travel since the pandemic. Incomes are up, gas prices are down, and Americans are once again reaping the benefits of energy freedom,” De Haan said.
While global risks remain — including hurricane season, trade uncertainty, and the ongoing war in Ukraine — the Trump administration’s strong energy stance has put America in the driver’s seat.
Trump’s Promise Kept
For millions of Americans, this Labor Day is a powerful reminder that leadership matters. President Trump promised to bring down costs, restore energy independence, and put America First. Today, those promises are paying off — with the lowest gas prices in years.
Trump’s Labor Day gift to America: more money in your pocket, more freedom on the road, and a future fueled by American energy.
