President Donald Trump is once again going head-to-head with one of his most relentless critics — Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) — in what’s shaping up to be a fierce new political showdown.
Schiff has been a thorn in Trump’s side for years. He spearheaded the Russia collusion investigation, led the first impeachment trial against Trump, and was a key member of the controversial January 6th Committee, which many conservatives believe was nothing more than a political witch hunt designed to take down the President.
Now that Trump has returned to the White House, he’s making it clear that Schiff won’t escape accountability.
Mortgage Probe Sparks Battle
The Trump administration has launched a federal investigation into allegations that Schiff improperly received favorable lending terms on a luxury property near Washington, D.C. Schiff has angrily denied the charges, claiming they are politically motivated.
In preparation for what could be a lengthy legal battle, Schiff recently set up a legal defense fund, accusing Trump and his allies of “weaponizing” the justice system.
“This fund will give him the resources to fight these false attacks while allowing him to keep serving in his role,” said Schiff spokesperson Marisol Samayoa.
The Department of Justice has tapped Ed Martin, head of the new Weaponization Working Group, to oversee the probe. Martin is also investigating mortgages tied to New York Attorney General Letitia James and Federal Reserve Board member Lisa Cook.
All three Democrats are crying foul, calling the investigations “politically motivated.”
Trump Turns Up the Heat
President Trump has never been shy about voicing his disdain for Schiff, branding him with a string of sharp nicknames over the years, including “Shifty Schiff,” “Pencil Neck,” and “enemy from within.”
White House officials say Trump views Schiff as the architect of many of the most dangerous attacks on his presidency — from the Russia hoax to impeachment.
“Adam Schiff is a dishonest and corrupt politician who broke his oath to the Constitution by allowing his personal vendetta against President Trump to come before the needs of the American people,” the administration said in a statement.
Some Trump allies have privately expressed frustration that Schiff was never held accountable for his role in promoting the Russia collusion narrative, which collapsed under scrutiny.
Leaker Allegations Surface
Alongside the mortgage probe, the administration is revisiting claims that Schiff leaked classified information while serving on the House Intelligence Committee.
While the FBI has not confirmed the accusations, documents released to Congress show a former staffer accused Schiff of improperly releasing sensitive material. Schiff’s office dismissed the claims as coming from a “disgruntled former employee” with credibility issues.
Democrats Cry Foul
Democrats are circling the wagons around Schiff, portraying the investigation as an attack not just on him, but on anyone who dares oppose Trump.
Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) warned that the probe could have a chilling effect on lawmakers.
“It’s designed to intimidate and silence people before they even speak out,” Quigley said. “There’s probably no one they hate more than Adam Schiff.”
Schiff himself has leaned into the narrative, accusing Trump of abusing the power of his office to settle personal vendettas.
“Donald Trump and his MAGA allies are determined to twist the justice system into a political weapon to go after Senator Schiff for challenging what they see as a corrupt administration,” his spokesperson said.
High Stakes Political Showdown
With the investigation now public, the fight between Trump and Schiff is expected to dominate headlines for months.
While Schiff enjoys some protections as a sitting senator — including certain constitutional safeguards — the probe marks a dramatic escalation in Trump’s effort to hold his political opponents accountable.
For conservatives who remember Schiff’s years of relentless attacks on Trump, the new investigation represents something else entirely: a long-overdue reckoning.
