Trump Attacks Top Senate Official

Trump didn’t hold back and the entire Senate is shocked.

President Donald Trump escalated his criticism of Washington insiders on Wednesday, taking aim at the Senate parliamentarian and urging Republicans to stop playing defense.

In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump accused Elizabeth MacDonough of repeatedly issuing decisions that undermine Republican priorities while giving Democrats an easier path to advance their agenda.

Trump also renewed his call for Senate Republicans to abolish the filibuster, arguing that doing so would allow conservatives to secure major legislative victories and protect the country from sweeping changes pushed by the Left.

Trump Questions Why Senate Parliamentarian Remains in Power

Trump asked why MacDonough has not been replaced despite years of rulings that have frustrated Republican lawmakers.

“Over the years, she has been brutal to Republicans, but not so to the Dumocrats,” Trump wrote. “So why has she not been replaced?”

He said many fair-minded individuals would be qualified for the role and argued that Republicans too often fail to use the power they already have.

Trump went on to say that Republicans often take a far less aggressive approach than Democrats, arguing that this reluctance to fight harder is one of the party’s greatest political weaknesses.

What the Senate Parliamentarian Actually Does

The Senate parliamentarian is an unelected official who interprets Senate rules and advises lawmakers on what can and cannot be included in legislation.

MacDonough has served in the role since 2012 and became the first woman to hold the position.

Her decisions carry major consequences, especially during budget reconciliation, a process that allows certain bills involving taxes and spending to pass with a simple majority instead of the normal 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster.

This makes the parliamentarian one of the most influential figures in Washington, even though most Americans have never heard of the office.

Recent Rulings Spark Conservative Frustration

Republicans have grown increasingly frustrated after several rulings blocked provisions in Trump-backed legislation.

Most recently, MacDonough determined that funding tied to a proposed White House ballroom security project could not be included under reconciliation rules.

She also issued previous rulings affecting immigration enforcement funding and other components of major Republican legislation.

To many conservatives, these decisions have become a symbol of how unelected bureaucrats can slow or derail the agenda voters supported at the ballot box.

Tuberville Leads Calls for Immediate Action

Tommy Tuberville was among the first Republican senators to call for MacDonough’s removal.

“Unelected bureaucrats think they know better than U.S. Congressmen who are elected by the people,” Tuberville wrote on X. “The Senate parliamentarian should be fired ASAP.”

His comments resonated with many conservatives who believe elected officials—not staff advisers—should make final decisions on legislative priorities.

Thune Defends Senate Traditions

John Thune has taken a more cautious approach.

The Senate Majority Leader has defended the parliamentarian’s role and said Republicans should respect the institution’s longstanding rules and procedures.

Thune has also repeatedly supported preserving the legislative filibuster.

Trump Urges Republicans to End the Filibuster

President Trump argued that keeping the filibuster in place gives Democrats a powerful tool to block conservative reforms.

“Kill the Filibuster, which would give us everything!” Trump wrote.

He believes Republicans could move much faster on border security, election integrity, tax cuts, and other priorities if legislation could pass with a simple majority.

Trump Warns Democrats Could Reshape America

Trump warned that Democrats would likely eliminate the filibuster as soon as they regain control of the Senate.

He said they could then grant statehood to Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, creating four new Senate seats and additional Electoral College votes.

Trump also warned that Democrats could expand the Supreme Court and dramatically alter the balance of power in the federal government.

“If we don’t pass at least one of these two provisions quickly, you will never see another Republican president again,” Trump cautioned.

Election Integrity Remains a Top Priority

Trump also emphasized the importance of strengthening election laws, including requiring voters to present written identification before casting a ballot.

Conservatives argue that stronger safeguards are essential to restoring confidence in the election process and protecting the integrity of every legal vote.

A Defining Moment for Senate Republicans

The debate over the filibuster and the power of unelected Senate officials has become a major test for Republican leadership.

Supporters of President Trump believe voters elected Republicans to deliver meaningful change, not to allow procedural roadblocks to stand in the way.

As pressure builds in Washington, many conservatives are watching closely to see whether GOP leaders will stand firmly behind Trump’s agenda—or continue to rely on traditions that critics say benefit the political establishment.
