In his eagerness to greet Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, President Joe Biden stumbled while descending the stairs of the Itsukushima Shrine on Friday.

According to Daily Mail, President Joe Biden, who was running behind schedule, arrived on Miyajima Island to join the other G7 leaders for a tour of the holy site. However, as he hurried down the stairs of the Itsukushima Shrine, he stumbled momentarily but managed to regain his balance before falling. The other leaders were patiently waiting for him to commence the tour.

Despite the slip, President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida carried on with their visit, seamlessly joining the other heads of state to admire the renowned ‘floating’ torii gate. The evening unfolded on the enchanting island, famous for its wild deer, providing a fitting conclusion to the summit’s eventful first day.

Following the tour, the world leaders, representing the United States, Japan, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, gathered for a private dinner on the island. This exclusive gathering provided them with an opportunity for intimate discussions and exchanges in a relaxed setting.

President Joe Biden, who is 80 years old, made the decision to depart from the dinner early. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre explained that the president had planned to receive an update from his debt ceiling negotiation team in Washington, where it was morning at the time. This move indicated the president’s commitment to staying informed and engaged with important matters even during his travels abroad.
