This was unexpected.
A progressive Christian group has now come out and are speaking against former President Donald Trump running again in 2024. They have even gone as far as creating an online petition which has shockingly received more than 20,000 signatures.
According to Newsweek, the new petition was created by a group called Faithful America which was founded in 2004. Faithful America claims to be the “largest online community of Christians putting faith into action for social justice.”
The group wrote on their website, “On November 15 at Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump officially announced that he is running for president in 2024. In a speech laced with fearmongering and lies, Trump made it clear that he intends to double down on the fascist tactics that led to the deadly January 6 Christian-nationalist attack on our Capitol.”
They then said, “We don’t know much yet about how the 2024 election will play out, but one thing is certain: Another Trump presidency would be a disaster for our country.”
The Christian group even went as far as claiming that the former president’s pro-Trump Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement went against the core belief of Christian values.
The group didn’t stop there. They continued to smear Trump and called him an “insurrectionist ex-president.”
“The insurrectionist ex-president—who infamously tear-gassed peaceful protesters to take a photo-op with a Bible outside an Episcopal church that didn’t support him—repeatedly weaponized religion in his last two campaigns, and 2024 will be no different,” Faithful America said.
