CNN is so pathetic.
CNN anchor Brianna Keilar has recently attempted to clarify her previous criticism of Sen. JD Vance, the running mate for former President Donald Trump, amid backlash for implying that Vance exaggerated his military service.
In her latest commentary, Keilar addressed the controversy by asserting that Vance served with distinction in Iraq, despite initial concerns about his portrayal of military experiences. “It’s important to recognize that JD Vance’s service in Iraq was honorable,” Keilar stated during a Friday broadcast. “Vance himself has described his experiences as ‘lucky to escape any real fighting,’ but this does not diminish his service. In combat zones, survival often comes down to luck, and such experiences are valid regardless of the intensity of combat.”
Keilar emphasized that military service, whether it involves direct combat or not, should be viewed as a significant contribution rather than a liability. “In our nation, where a small fraction of the population serves in the military, we should regard service as an asset rather than a drawback,” she argued. “Many service members have not experienced combat, yet their dedication and sacrifice are commendable. This includes those who retire from the National Guard after extensive service, like Vance and Tim Walz.”
She further noted that having veterans on the presidential tickets is a rare and valuable perspective. “This election features two veterans, a notable fact given the rarity of such representation in recent years,” Keilar remarked. “Their firsthand knowledge of military life and the needs of service members is crucial. In the race for Commander-in-Chief, having leaders who understand military service is essential for making informed decisions about defense and national security.”
Earlier, Keilar had suggested that Vance might not be the most effective critic of Walz, noting that Vance, though a combat correspondent, did not see combat firsthand. This comment drew criticism from Vance, who defended his record on social media and emphasized his truthful account of his Marine Corps service.
Walz has faced scrutiny over his military record. Although he served in the Minnesota National Guard for 24 years, questions have arisen about the accuracy of his claims regarding his combat experience and the timing of his retirement. Critics argue that Walz misrepresented his role, suggesting he overstated his combat involvement, which the Minnesota National Guard has disputed.
The Harris campaign has since updated Walz’s biography to correct the record, highlighting his service but clarifying his rank upon retirement. The campaign also defended Walz, emphasizing his respect for all military service and expressing gratitude to Vance for his service.
