Los Angeles is in crisis.
Democrat Mayor Karen Bass just made it worse by refusing to say whether illegal immigrants in the city should be deported — even as crime, homelessness, and economic strain continue to rise.
During a tense segment on ABC’s This Week, Mayor Bass refused to give a clear answer when asked if all illegal immigrants in Los Angeles should be allowed to stay. Her response? Deflection, denial, and more political talking points.
Sanctuary City in Denial: Bass Won’t Say Who Should Be Deported
When ABC’s Martha Raddatz asked the mayor who should be deported — especially considering the estimated one million illegal immigrants in LA — Bass dodged the question.
“I don’t think so. I think they should stay,” she said flatly.
Bass claimed that the city “depends” on illegal labor and even suggested that immigration enforcement causes unnecessary “fear,” despite growing concerns from American citizens about the safety and economic consequences of unchecked migration.
Blaming Trump, Ignoring the Border Crisis
Rather than take responsibility, Mayor Bass blamed former President Donald Trump for the lack of immigration reform. She claimed bipartisan efforts failed because Trump didn’t want to share credit — a talking point that conveniently ignores the record-low border crossings under Trump’s leadership.
Under President Biden, by contrast, the numbers are staggering:
- Over 10.8 million border encounters
- Roughly 2 million known “gotaways”
- Cities like Los Angeles now serve as magnets for illegal migration due to sanctuary city policies
Border Patrol: Illegal Immigrants Are “Cutting in Line”
Even Border Patrol agents are speaking out. Raddatz recalled an agent saying he feels bad for illegal immigrants — but they’re “cutting in line” ahead of those trying to enter legally.
Instead of acknowledging the injustice, Bass again pivoted. She claimed that people walking from Central and South America are coming “out of desperation” — but failed to address how this massive influx is straining city resources and putting law-abiding Americans at risk.
Bass Admits: No Praise for Trump on Immigration
When asked if there’s anything good about the Trump administration’s immigration policy, Bass responded:
“I don’t think so. The viewpoint has been punitive.”
She went on to accuse the administration of creating a “reign of terror,” even though it was Trump’s policies that helped restore border enforcement, national security, and respect for law and order.
National Guard Deployed as LA Riots Spiral
Bass also took a swipe at the deployment of National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles after anti-ICE protests spiraled into lawlessness. She insisted the military was “never needed,” even though the Pentagon said the violence in early June made it necessary.
The Guard’s presence is now being scaled back — but the question remains: What happens when the next wave hits?
Looking Ahead: World Cup, Olympics, and No Plan in Sight
With the World Cup arriving in 11 months and the Olympics coming in just three years, Los Angeles faces enormous pressure. But Mayor Bass still hasn’t had serious conversations with the Trump administration on how to fix the crisis.
“I will always be open to a conversation,” she said.
“But we have a fundamental disagreement on this issue.”
Bottom Line: Americans Deserve Better
Mayor Bass may continue hiding behind political rhetoric, but the facts are clear:
✅ Los Angeles is overwhelmed.
✅ Illegal immigration is out of control.
✅ And the Trump administration’s border policies worked — and continue to be proven right.
It’s time for real leadership, real enforcement, and real reform — before it’s too late.
