Kamala is ditching her own supporters and it’s hilarious.

When questioned about Vice President Kamala Harris’s shifting stance on several progressive issues, Senator Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., offered a straightforward explanation. During an interview on “Meet the Press,” NBC anchor Kristen Welker pointed out that Harris had once championed Medicare-for-All and a fracking ban but now seemed to be distancing herself from those positions as the November election approaches. Sanders was asked if he thought Harris was abandoning her progressive values.

Sanders responded, “No, I do not think she is ditching her ideals. I believe she is being pragmatic and doing what she thinks is necessary to win the 2024 election.” His comments came amid Harris’s noticeable pivot from far-left policies on immigration, energy, and health care since becoming the Democratic nominee.

In August, Harris defended her evolving policy positions during an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash. She assured viewers that her core values had remained consistent. Regarding the Green New Deal and climate change, Harris stated, “I have always believed that the climate crisis is real and urgent. We’ve worked on setting goals and deadlines through the Inflation Reduction Act.”

Harris also asserted that her values concerning border security remained unchanged. “As California’s attorney general, I prosecuted crimes related to illegal border crossings and criminal organizations. My values on these issues have not shifted,” she said.

Despite Harris’s policy shifts, Sanders maintains that she is still a progressive. He acknowledged that while her approach to universal health care differs from his, they share common goals. “She might not support Medicare-for-All anymore, but we both back expanding Medicare, increasing Social Security benefits, and raising the minimum wage,” Sanders explained. He praised her support for permanent child tax credits, affordable housing, and worker rights, emphasizing that these issues align with progressive values.

A spokesperson for the Harris campaign confirmed that her adjusted positions reflect a “pragmatic” approach aimed at uniting various viewpoints. Mia Ehrenberg, the spokesperson, stated, “Vice President Harris believes in real leadership through consensus-building, which has led to bipartisan successes on issues like infrastructure and gun violence prevention.” According to the campaign, Harris’s current positions have been shaped by her three years of experience in the Biden administration.

Harris will face former President Donald Trump in a debate hosted by ABC News this Tuesday, marking a crucial moment in their ongoing electoral contest.
