This is absolutely insane!
The FBI has requested an interview with former President Donald Trump following an assassination attempt during a campaign rally earlier this month, according to recent reports.
An unnamed FBI official shared with the New York Times that the agency is seeking to question Trump as part of its investigation into the incident. The official indicated that this interview aims to provide more clarity on the nature of the injuries Trump sustained and offer a more comprehensive account of the shooting.
This development follows statements from FBI Director Christopher Wray, who has expressed uncertainty about whether Trump’s injuries were caused by a bullet or by shrapnel. The shooting occurred on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, during a rally where a gunman opened fire. Wray revealed that the FBI is currently analyzing metal fragments discovered near the stage where the attack took place.
In a statement released Thursday, the FBI confirmed that its shooting reconstruction team is continuing to examine evidence, including bullet fragments, and that the investigation remains active.
Videos from the rally depict Trump ducking for cover as shots were fired, followed by his swift evacuation from the stage by Secret Service agents. Subsequently, images surfaced showing Trump with blood visible from his right ear.
During his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Wray, a Trump appointee and a Republican, admitted he was unsure whether Trump was struck by a bullet or shrapnel.
In response, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung directed inquiries to Trump’s Truth Social post from Thursday. Trump asserted, “FBI Director Christopher Wray said he wasn’t sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a bullet (the FBI never even checked!), but he was confident that Crooked Joe Biden was physically and cognitively ‘uneventful’ – Wrong!”
Trump clarified, “It was, unfortunately, a bullet that struck my ear, and it hit hard. There was no glass or shrapnel involved. The hospital confirmed it as a ‘bullet wound to the ear.'”
The FBI’s primary focus in the investigation, as highlighted by the NYT report, is not solely on the type of projectile that hit Trump but on uncovering whether anyone assisted the shooter and addressing any potential ongoing threats.
Michael Harrigan, a former FBI special agent with experience in firearms training, emphasized that the bureau’s main goal is to identify any accomplices of the shooter and mitigate future risks. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, opened fire at the rally, resulting in one death and serious injuries to two others before being neutralized by Secret Service agents.
