This has to STOP!
On Sunday, former President Donald Trump’s campaign issued a statement confirming that the GOP presidential candidate is “safe” following an incident involving gunshots in his vicinity. Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, stated, “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time.”
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi also provided an update, noting on social media that the agency is collaborating with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the “protective incident” involving Trump. This event occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday. Guglielmi reaffirmed that Trump is unharmed.
CNN reported that Trump was at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach County, Florida, when the incident took place. According to sources, the golf course was secured immediately after the shots were fired.
This recent event follows a troubling episode from July, when Trump was targeted in an assassination attempt while speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. On July 13, the alleged assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired from a nearby rooftop, injuring Trump and tragically killing one attendee. Two other individuals were injured but have since recovered.
Crooks, who was only 20 years old, was shot and killed by law enforcement shortly after the attack. The incident raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the Secret Service’s security measures, prompting significant scrutiny. This led to Director Kimberly Cheatle resigning after a problematic Congressional hearing addressing the agency’s response.
The Department of Justice, through the FBI, is actively investigating the July shooting. This recent security scare underscores the persistent challenges faced by those tasked with protecting high-profile figures, and the need for continued vigilance and improvements in safety protocols.
