Here’s what happened…
Republican Governor Charlie Baker of Massachusetts has just vetoed a bill that would have given every illegal in the state driver’s license however it appears that Democrats in the state are now aiming to override his veto and give them licenses anyways.
According to the National Review, Gov. Baker vetoed the bill and said, “I cannot sign this legislation because it requires the Registry of Motor Vehicles to issue state credentials to people without the ability to verify their identity.”
Gov. Baker further noted that the RMV “does not have the expertise or ability to verify the validity of many types of documents from other countries.”
He also explained that given illegals valid driver’s licenses will result in more of them being able to register to vote because it would be very difficult to tell the difference between who is a U.S. citizen and who isn’t.
Now Democrats are planning to fight back and will override the bill on June 8th even though they know that this could cause many problems down the line.
A spokeswoman for the Senate President said the chamber will override, but did not provide a date.
