Immigrants Thank Trump

The Democrats have a very hard pill to swallow.

In a dramatic turn few in the mainstream media predicted, immigrant voters are swinging behind President Donald Trump, embracing his tough stance on border security and immigration enforcement. Once seen as a core Democrat voting bloc, many legal immigrants are now standing with Trump—rejecting the lawlessness and chaos ushered in by Biden’s open-border policies.

President Trump has vowed to launch the largest mass deportation effort in American history. That promise, along with sweeping ICE operations already underway, has led to national protests—particularly in Los Angeles, where Trump ordered 2,000 National Guard troops to restore peace after attacks on ICE agents by violent mobs.

Despite media spin and elite outrage, a growing number of immigrants say enough is enough—and they’re siding with the rule of law.

Data Doesn’t Lie: Immigrants Back Trump’s Immigration Agenda

Based on analysis by CNN’s Harry Enten, the shift among immigrant voters has been dramatic. In 2020, Democrats held a 32-point lead on immigration with this group. As of 2024, that advantage has flipped, with Republicans now leading by 8 points—a stunning 40-point turnaround. Support for President Trump among immigrant voters has also risen steadily, increasing from 36% in 2016 to 47% in 2024.

Even more revealing: immigrants’ views of illegal immigration have flipped. In 2020, undocumented immigrants were viewed positively (+23). In 2024, that number is now negative (-6)—a massive 29-point shift.

Trump’s Tough Talk Wins Support—Even Among Immigrants

A majority of Americans now back Trump’s immigration plan. A June CBS News/YouGov poll found 54% support his deportation policy, and 51% approve of ICE operations. An RMG Research poll showed 58% support mass deportations, while 59% in an InsiderAdvantage survey endorsed Trump’s National Guard deployment to Los Angeles.

These numbers far exceed Biden’s support on the economy or inflation. Immigration has become Trump’s strongest policy issue—even among those the media assumed would oppose him.

Legal Immigrants: “We Followed the Rules—Now Enforce Them”

Experts say the surge in immigrant support for Trump is rooted in fairness. Legal immigrants who waited, filed paperwork, and followed every rule feel betrayed by Biden’s open-border chaos.

Thomas Gift, professor of political science, says many immigrants are frustrated: “They followed the rules, and now they’re watching others cut the line.”

Jeremy Beck of NumbersUSA adds that from 2021 to 2024, over 10.8 million illegal border encounters occurred under Biden—quadruple the number under Trump. “These legal immigrant voters helped form Trump’s winning coalition,” he said. “They’ve sent a message loud and clear: enforce the law, and keep immigration at manageable levels.”

In Latino-majority districts across Texas and Colorado, Trump made historic gains. He earned 43% of the Hispanic vote in 2024—a record high for any Republican candidate.

Economic Reality Driving the Shift

Why are immigrants backing Trump? It comes down to dollars and cents.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 43% of immigrants believe their financial situation will worsen this year, compared to just 33% of native-born Americans. 36% of immigrants now live in low-income households, compared to 29% of U.S.-born citizens.

Mass illegal immigration puts pressure on schools, hospitals, jobs, housing—and immigrants often feel it first. “They work in the same industries and communities,” Beck noted. “They see lower wages, crowded schools, and longer hospital wait times.”

Trump has drawn this connection clearly. In a fiery debate, he warned illegal immigration is “killing opportunities” for Black and Hispanic Americans. In a 2025 address to Congress, he said, “Biden didn’t just open the border—he flew illegals over it to dump them in our towns and cities.”

A Nation Divided, But the Trend Is Clear

While protests continue—many coordinated to take place on President Trump’s birthday—immigrant voters are breaking from the Democrat narrative. They’re siding with law and order, with secure borders, and with a president who is willing to act.

Political analysts now believe this could be a permanent realignment. According to CNN’s Enten: “No voter bloc has moved further right between 2020 and 2024 than immigrant voters.”

Beck agrees: “If a political party wants to win the trust of immigrants, they must show they will enforce immigration law—fairly, and in the national interest.”
