Kamala Evicted From Her Own Home?

Even her neighbors hate her.

Vice President Kamala Harris has drawn considerable attention for her frequent stays in Los Angeles, surpassing all locations outside Washington, D.C. during her vice presidency. Reports indicate that her extended absences from the capital have not only frustrated some affluent neighbors but also sparked concerns among fellow Democrats who would prefer her to be more actively campaigning.

In 2023 alone, Harris reportedly spent at least 59 days in her $2.7 million Brentwood home with her husband, Doug Emhoff. This follows a pattern from the previous year, during which she was in Los Angeles for at least 46 days. Her time in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood has necessitated significant security measures, including frequent street closures that have understandably enraged even the liberal residents of the area. One local resident expressed frustration, even suggesting that they might support the Democratic nominee only if Harris agreed to sell her home.

Harris’s extended stays in L.A. have not gone unnoticed in political circles. Critics argue that her time away from Washington, particularly when it lacks significant public engagements, may detract from her effectiveness as Vice President. This concern was highlighted following the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade in June 2022, when a local resident posted a sign urging Harris to return to her duties in the capital.

Moreover, the logistics of Harris’s Los Angeles stays have led to additional costs for the White House, including the rental of a sizable mansion to accommodate government staff. This property, previously rented at over $29,000 per month before Harris took office, highlights the significant expenses associated with her coastal retreats.

In contrast to Harris’s occasional stays, President Joe Biden has retired to his residences in Wilmington or Rehoboth Beach for a substantial 328 days of his presidency, according to former CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller. Despite Biden’s frequent retreats, Donald Trump and his campaign have used Harris’s California connections to brand her as a “radical California liberal,” which she has tried to counter in her public appearances.

During her recent speech at the Democratic National Convention, Harris sought to address a broader national audience, emphasizing her commitment to serve all Americans and put the country above party lines. Nonetheless, her ties to California remain a notable aspect of her political persona, as she continues to advocate for the state’s influence on national policy.
