Newsom thinks it’s his time to shine.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is being hailed as the Democrats’ next big hope — but he’s earning attention not for results, but for mocking President Donald Trump.
In a desperate attempt to rally a fractured Democratic Party, Newsom has begun copying Trump’s every move. From writing in ALL CAPS on social media, to bragging about his “beautiful” proposals, to slapping Trump with a childish nickname — “TACO” (Trump Always Chickens Out) — Newsom is chasing headlines, not solving problems.
Democrats Desperate for Leadership
After losing big in November, Democrats are scrambling for someone who can “stand up to Trump.” Polls show the party’s popularity sinking to its lowest level in 30 years, with nearly two-thirds of Americans holding an unfavorable view of Democrats.
Enter Newsom — a career politician running the most dysfunctional state in America. California is plagued by rising crime, rampant homelessness, sky-high taxes, and a mass exodus of families and businesses. Yet instead of fixing his state, Newsom spends his time picking Twitter fights.
Media Fawns, Voters Shrug
The left-wing media can’t get enough. HuffPost called him a “troll,” while Fox News highlighted his copycat antics on The Five. Liberal strategists say he’s “energizing Democrats.” But outside the D.C. bubble, voters aren’t buying it.
Republican strategist Kevin Madden put it plainly: Newsom is obsessed with “communications tactics,” not real solutions. The result? More clicks, but no answers.
The “Next Obama”?
Some Democrats now whisper that Newsom could be the “new Obama.” Polls even show him rising among 2028 contenders, second only to Kamala Harris. But Americans remember what happened the last time a polished Democrat was packaged as the future: Obama left the country weaker, divided, and struggling.
By contrast, President Trump built his movement on results — a booming economy, secure borders, and American energy independence. Newsom is trying to mimic Trump’s style without delivering Trump’s substance.
Bottom Line
Newsom’s obsession with trolling Trump may thrill Democrats, but it exposes just how lost their party really is. Instead of offering vision or leadership, they’re recycling old tricks — and trying to sell America another Obama.
