Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) took a jab at former President Donald Trump’s restricted campaign movements due to his ongoing legal battles. The congresswoman from the Bronx criticized Trump ahead of his planned rally in her district, highlighting his difficulties with the law.
“The guy is essentially under legal house arrest,” Ocasio-Cortez remarked not realizing that crooked Democrats did this to him. “He can’t step outside the five boroughs without having to rush back to court.”
Trump is currently embroiled in four criminal cases, one of which involves hush money payments in Manhattan. This particular case demands his presence in New York City every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday since mid-April.
Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks triggered a wave of backlash from Republicans. They interpreted her statements as an acknowledgment of deliberate legal obstructions aimed at derailing Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
“AOC essentially confirms that the Democrats’ legal attacks on Trump are like an ankle monitor preventing him from campaigning freely,” Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) commented on X.
Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez is confronting a primary challenge for the first time since 2020. Marty Dolan, a Wall Street investor, is running against her, arguing that her progressive stance is too extreme for New York’s 14th Congressional District. He noted in a recent interview that her support base in Queens is waning.
The political landscape in Ocasio-Cortez’s district has shown signs of shifting. Last year, the GOP secured a local seat in her district when Kristy Marmorato became the first Republican to win a Bronx city council seat since 1977.
